Hall of Fame

STMC Hall of Fame

The STMC Hall of Fame was founded in 2005 to honor the alumni, staff and friends of St. Thomas More Collegiate who exemplify what it means to be a “Knight” through their personal achievements and/or service to STMC. They represent excellence in the STMC community, and offer our present- day Knights both pride in our past and inspiration for their future.

Criteria

  1. The nominee may be a former student, a former staff member, or a friend (parents, past parents, supporters) of St. Thomas More Collegiate.
    For former students, and under normal circumstances, a period of five (5) years must have elapsed between graduation and nomination for induction. For staff, under normal circumstances, a period of three (3) years must have elapsed between their retirement or departure from STMC and induction. Candidates may be nominated and inducted posthumously.
  2. Candidates must be nominated on the official nomination form.
  3. Candidates must have:
    • made a significant and publicly recognized contribution to society or their profession, OR
    • been recognized for outstanding performance in fine arts/applied skills, athletics, advocacy, government or public service, OR
    • advanced the cause of education, advocacy, science or medicine through practice and/or research, OR
    • been recognized for other outstanding achievements, accomplishments, contributions or acts that have had a profound and positive impact on the earth and its people.

Inducted for his servant leadership in coaching and teaching. Bernie was known for his humility, hard work and a strong sense of Faith.

Jon Cornish

Alumnus 2002

Inducted for his outstanding athletic achievements. Jon is also a first ballot CFL Hall of Famer and is a former Canadian Athlete of the Year award winner.

Friend of the STMC Community

Inducted for her inspirational support of St. Thomas More Collegiate. Her generosity will continue to help students in the years to come.

Inducted in 2006 for his accomplishments as a devoted STMC teacher, administrator, and groundskeeper. Bro. Bassett celebrates his 60 years as a dedicated Christian Brother in 2015.

Inducted for his constant support of St. Thomas More Collegiate, especially during its construction phases.

Inducted in 2005 for his accomplishments as a devoted STMC teacher and administrator, in which roles he always went beyond the call of duty.

Inducted in 2005 for his accomplishments as STMC Principal, in which role he oversaw an era of growth and academic accomplishment at STMC.

Inducted for his lifelong, high level of service to the STMC community as a coach, supportive parent and alumni leader.

Inducted in 2010 for his lifelong dedicated service as a Christian Brother and especially for his contributions at STMC as a devoted teacher, coach, missions coordinator and photographer extraordinaire. Bro. Cassidy celebrated his 60th as a Christian Brother in 2013.

Inducted in 2010 for her continuous presence and loyal support of STMC since 1966 and for her ongoing community service through Girl Guides and a local community centre where she supports new mothers and their babies.

Inducted in 2005 for his outstanding athletic achievements as a basketball and football player at STMC and as a professional lacrosse player. He was also inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2002) and the Whittier College, CA Sports Hall of Fame (1987).

Inducted in 2005 for his generosity and remarkable dedicated service to STMC. He successfully led the school's two capital campaigns: A Place for All Time (2003-2007) and the More Spirit Campaign (2010-2013) as the Cabinet Leadership Campaign Chair.

Inducted in 2010 for his achievements as a high school and collegiate athlete, his extraordinary service to STMC as past Chair of the Board of Directors and a current member of its Board of Trustees, and for his vital contributions that helped ensure the future of STMC at a critical juncture.

Inducted in 2005 for his accomplishments as the first Principal of STMC, in which role he nurtured the growth of Catholic secondary education in Burnaby.

Inducted in 2010 for his lifelong service as a Christian Brother, his important

contributions to STMC during his tenure as Principal, and for his continued example of living the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice through service to those in need at soup kitchens and correctional institutions.

Inducted in 2006 for his accomplishments as a devoted teacher and administrator during STMC’s very challenging early years. He will be celebrating his 60th year as a Christian Brother in 2016.

Inducted in 2006 for his accomplishments as an extraordinary athlete, participating twice in the Summer Olympic Games (1992 & 1996) with Team Canada, and for continuously exemplifying the qualities of a true Knight.

Inducted in 2008 for his accomplishments as a teacher and administrator at STMC. He is currently the Congressional Leader for the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America.

Alumni Parents (1993-2006) and current STMC Trustee

Inducted in 2010 for their outstanding record of involvement, innovative thinking and the ability to encourage others to get involved. They are truly one of the more memorable couples to ever walk the halls of STMC. Doug also played a crucial role in leading STMC through significant challenges in the past decade and helped lay the groundwork for STMC’s bright future. Doug continues to serve as a school trustee.
