Ways To Give

You can contribute to the More Spirit Campaign in any way that is convenient for you! Please make an ongoing monthly gift and/or five-year pledge, as that has the biggest impact on STMC's ability to start construction.

1. Make A Pledge

A “pledge” is a powerful way to make a difference at STMC. It is simply a statement of your giving intentions which gives STMC the important ability to plan for future income and begin construction on new facilities. You will always control the terms of the pledge and payments. We encourage you to determine what you could realistically afford to give monthly or annually, given your current financial situation, and pledge to give that amount for 3 to 5 years. If your giving ability or your wishes ever change, you can change your pledge at any time with just a phone call. 2. Donate Online

You can arrange a secure one-time gift or a repeating monthly donation to the STMC Foundation by clicking the link below. Giving online through our partner CanadaHelps.Org is convenient for both you and the STMC Foundation, and it entails only a nominal processing fee that is the same as the cost of processing donations in our office (except that it saves us the work)!

3. Donate By Phone, Mail, Fax or In Person

You can make a donation by cheque, cash, credit card or EFT authorization.

4. Join Our Monthly Giving Program

You can make a big difference at STMC in a way that fits your budget by joining our monthly giving program. Small and consistent gifts really do add up over time, and members of our monthly giving program receive special benefits from time to time. To join our monthly giving program, download the Donation Form or sign up online at the link below

5. Donate Through Your Workplace Giving Program

Many companies have employee fundraising campaigns, either for specific charities chosen by the company’s Donations Committee or for charities chosen directly by the employees. We would be happy to make a presentation to your workplace giving officer or an employee group.

Many employers will match donations made by their employees up to a certain limit. Your gift to the STMC Foundation then becomes twice as valuable! Check with your Human Resources Department to learn how to take advantage of this high-impact giving option.

6. Give Through United Way

You can direct all or part of your United Way donation to the STMC Foundation, even though we are not a United Way member agency. Simply write on the back of the pledge card: I want ____% of my donation to go to the STMC Foundation. Charitable registration #88361-4406-RR0001. The United Way will send your donation to us and mail you a receipt. Be sure to let us know about your United Way gift so we can follow up and make sure we receive it, by emailing jen.shelnutt@stmc.bc.ca.

7. Donate Publicly Traded Securities

Gifting stocks or other securities can be a wonderful way to make a difference at STMC while minimizing the tax cost and the impact on your lifestyle. Donors do not pay any tax on the appreciation of gifted assets, and a portion of your gift can be used to offset taxes on other income.

The Federal Government completely eliminated taxes on capital gains for gifts of publicly-traded securities to public charities in 2006. Giving marketable securities reduces the taxable portion of the capital gain you’ve had on those securities. “Publicly-traded securities” refers to all securities listed on Canadian and major international exchanges, including stocks, trust units, exchange-traded funds, warrants, etc., as well as mutual fund units and bonds.

The donation must be an "in kind" transfer of the security itself, not the cash proceeds of a sale of the security. The transfer is best made electronically from the donor’s investment account to St. Thomas More Collegiate Foundation account. Click here for instructions on how to make a gift of securities.

9. In Honor or In Memory of a Loved One

Remember someone special, either through an In Memoriam or Tribute Gift. We will send a card to the person of your choice to notify them of your gift.

10. Remembering the STMC Foundation in Your Will or Insurance Policy

The desire to contribute something meaningful and lasting to our community - to make it better for having lived - is one of human nature's most powerful desires. As life unfolds, some people are able to make their gift - a legacy of hope for the future. Planning such an ultimate gift can be one of the most satisfying and exhilarating experiences of your life. Your gift can be accomplished in any number of creative ways, each one of them a flame of hope for the future.

Charitable Bequest
This is an easy way to make a gift. Simply name the STMC Foundation as a beneficiary in your will. The gift can be a specific amount, percentage or residual amount.

Life Insurance
By designating the STMC Foundation as the owner and beneficiary of a paid up, current or new policy you will be able to make a significant future gift without diminishing your estate.
