Debate Team

The Debate Team holds weekly meetings in which students are given new topics to discuss and debate.  Working either in small groups amongst their friends or larger groups involving all peers, members of the debate team get to interact with all team members. 

Students spend the first half of their meetings congregating with other team members who share their view on the given topic.  After close analysis of argumentative points and tactics, a "team debate" is carried out, involving respresentatives from each side of the argument.  Topics range from social justice issues to entertainment and sports. 

In addition, a highlight of Debate Team is participation in local or prvincial debate tournaments from beginner to senior level.

The STMC Debate Team welcomes students who are enthusiastic about a prestigious learning environment and having their voices heard, and strives to provide all members with a sense of belonging, community involvement, and pride in representing our school.
